Structural Strengthening of the Building
1999
In order to allow for the extension of one of the wings of the Hotel Oásis Atlantic, involving the construction of three additional floors, it became necessary to increase the load-bearing capacity of the existing structure.
Applied Technique
This project included one of the first structural reinforcements in Portugal using carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) applied to reinforced concrete structures.
The reinforcement intervention involved jacket wrapping 40 columns with carbon fiber in the form of a pre-impregnated sheet, branded Replark and marketed by Mitsubishi, covering a total area of 400 m², as well as shear strengthening of beams by wrapping slabs transversely.
