General refurbishment of Workshops II of the Lisbon Metro – Phase 1
1995
The intervention consisted of the comprehensive rehabilitation of the reinforced concrete structure of Workshops II of the Lisbon Metro, located in Sete Rios.
Steps and techniques used
A preliminary diagnostic study was carried out to assess the characteristics and extent of the pathologies and to serve as a basis for the design and development of a comprehensive rehabilitation project for the three main buildings of the complex.
The main works involved in the global rehabilitation of the buildings included:
- Concrete repair using pre-dosed cement-based mortars;
- Structural reinforcement with metal plates bonded with epoxy resin;
- Injection of epoxy resins into cracked reinforced concrete elements;
- General surface treatment and protection using acrylic-based paint;
- Foundation rehabilitation using micro-piles to correct the settlement of the original foundations in a specific area of the building;
- Treatment and protection of all surfaces clad in “São Paulo”-type terracotta tiles, with selective replacement of damaged elements.
