General refurbishment of the façades (Building D– malt house and Building E – production silos)

2004

The intervention involved the general rehabilitation of the façades of building D – malt house and building E – manufacturing silos at the Central de Cervejas in Vialonga. This is a building approximately 40 meters high, composed of a lattice structure with columns, beams, and reinforced concrete façades.

Applied Technique

The façades showed delaminated areas and corroded reinforcement (anodic zones). The rehabilitation strategy was characterized by the remediation and replacement of deteriorated concrete with sprayed reinforced concrete, followed by protection of the concrete with an appropriate coating.

Intervention Stages

The intervention began with the removal of damaged concrete and preparation of the surfaces to receive the new repair concrete. Next, reinforcement cages were installed and the concrete was replaced by spraying. After completing these tasks, a final protective coating was applied consisting of two coats of acrylic-based paint.

Additional information

This was a project of considerable scale, involving a repair area equivalent to 14.5% of the total sum of the façades’ areas of the two buildings involved, totaling approximately 10,000 m².
