CJO – Ciments Jbel Oust operates a cement production plant located in Bir M’Cherga, 60 km south of Tunis, Tunisia, which underwent structural repairs.

Intervention Stages

Initially, the annealing tower was repaired, followed by the clinker stock tower in a second phase. During this latter intervention, two new hoppers were also constructed to ensure greater clinker transport capacity to the mills and consequently increase cement production.

Work began with the logistics of transportation and allocation of personnel, equipment, and vehicles. This was followed by scaffolding assembly, inspection of the areas to be repaired using percussion tests and marking. The intervention continued with concrete demolition, reinforcement treatment by sandblasting and subsequent supplementation, dry spray concrete application, crack injection with epoxy resin, and final application of acrylic-based protective coating.

The second phase, intervention on the clinker stock tower, involved structural repair of the concrete both inside and outside the tower. To build the two new reinforced concrete hoppers, it was necessary to cut the reinforced concrete and reinforce the ceiling of the transport gallery with metallic elements.

Applied Technique

The intervention employed structural shotcrete applied by the dry method. The same methodology used on the annealing tower was applied to the clinker stock tower. However, internally, to ensure excellent performance against abrasion and wear caused by clinker sliding, shotcrete with basalt aggregate was applied.
