Structural Strengthening of the Building
1985
The 1985 intervention in what was then the Mobil headquarters building in Lisbon focused primarily on strengthening the existing structure to allow for the addition of two extra floors.
Main works carried out
To achieve this goal, steel profiles and plates were anchored to reinforced concrete structural elements, specifically the staircase and elevator shafts.
Additional rehabilitation work was also performed, including: epoxy injection in defective construction joints, elimination of water infiltration and seepage in several areas of the north gable wall at the basement level.
Results
As part of the performance assessment carried out in July 2008, the structure was generally found to be in good condition, showing a low level of deterioration and continuing to fulfill its intended function.
