Due to new functional requirements imposed on the structural elements, the main building of the Madeira Palace Hotel was subjected to various survey and diagnostic works to support the development of a study and potential structural strengthening project.

Applied Technique

Deficiencies were identified in the reinforced concrete beams, and the project adopted strengthening solutions involving the installation of carbon fiber laminates and steel plates to increase load-bearing capacity. During execution, it became necessary to repair the concrete in some columns and slabs due to their advanced state of degradation and disintegration.

Non-shrink repair mortar and high-strength micro-concrete were used to restore the geometry of the affected elements.
